West Midtown/Westside/Underwood Hills/Home Park

Community Overview

In A Nutshell

If you love cobblestones, large buildings and inventive repurposing, you'll love the Westside, more properly known as West Midtown in Atlanta. An eclectic mix of historic and new, artists and high tech, and achievers and dreamers, contributes to the unique character of this neighborhood. Once the nerve center of industrial Atlanta, Westside now boasts a smattering of new apartments and condos, but is mostly known for spacious lofts and apartments carved from industrial buildings.

Walking, Biking, or Driving

Home Park's residential district is characterized by trees and sidewalks that make it particularly pleasant for a stroll, and most of West Midtown can be navigated easily on foot or by bicycle. But that is truly not unusual in Atlanta, as odd as it may be for most cities with a population in the millions. Public transportation via rail line and bus services this neighborhood well.

The Scene

Nothing should be surprising in this neighborhood that is proud of its contrasts. The Food Truck Park and Market on its boundary shares billing in this neighborhood with Bacchanalia, considered by many to be Atlanta's finest dining establishment. Textile showrooms compete with antique art galleries of all types. Westside also includes historic Underwood Hills founded in 1902, with its blocks of smaller single-family homes, and Home Park which claims to be the "heart" of the Westside, adjacent to the Georgia Tech campus.

The Backstory

Handmade and handcrafted meet high-tech in Westside, and each emerges stronger and better for the mix. Artisanal and farm-grown foods join hands with industrial innovation in the Westside Provisions District, and four major centers cater to divergent art traditions. The area is a testament to what determination and effective city planning can accomplish.
